Rob's blog

New site, new blogs, new update!

It's been a while since I posted an update on my diary and now that we've got a spangly new blog system I've got no excuses. I can now post live updates from anywhere in the world!

We've been working on this like crazy over the past few weeks and finally it's at a stage where is usable so it has gone live :) It's not quite finished yet so there's a link to the old site whilst we finish adding the content and other cool stuff. Sorry for all the messing about but it'll be worth the wait... I promise!

10 weeks since I started the diary

Exactly 10 weeks since I started the diary and I am driving; on my feet; not dizzy; have no pains; 90% recovered from the facial paralysis; 95% with my balance; and generally in good spirits.

To dampen my high spirits my car decided not to start again. I managed to get the neighbour to start it with a mains-powered charger and then took it out for a long drive. That should do the trick.

Back behind the wheel

So it's the big day... I'm all ready to get behind the wheel to see if I can handle a drive around the block. I'm up early. I've had a shower, got changed and had a shave. I'm behind the wheel. I've turned the key and, and, and... NOTHING! GUTTED! The bloody battery is flat and I can't even get a fart out of the engine. Arghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

I can't believe this at all. All dressed up and nowhere to go! Hehehee. Best thing is that all my mates are at work and the neighbours are out. Damn.

Lazy Sunday afternoon

Another lazy Sunday afternoon in front of the box watching the Arsenal vs Sheffield United game. How the referee got away with the blatant rugby tackle on the United player god only knows.

Didn't bother going out for a drive today... will leave it till Monday now.

Too much work to drive

The weekend's here again and I'm considering jumping into my car for a test run around the local area.

Changed my mind. Too much work to do so I'm gonna leave it until tomorrow.

No more ghosting

Went on site today to check out some of the work being carried out. Although the place is still a bit of an obstacle course I managed to navigate it without stumbling too much.

The main area of improvement in the RHS is the visual aspect. I am seeing things more clearly now without the strange 'ghosting' or 'tracer' effects. Less distortion equals less dizziness equals happier me!

Janine has started driving

Got an email from Janine (check out her diary too) who said she was had just started driving again after 7 weeks timeout through RHS. I'm determined to give it shot this weekend. She has inspired me!

Balance getting better

Spent a good few hours at work today and again my balance seems to be better. There were a couple of incidents which made me realise that I'm not fully recovered but I'm positive it will be soon.

Getting steadier

I'm definitely getting steadier on my feet as the days go by and today I feel reasonably stable.

My face hasn't really made much progress though. The lip is still very slightly weaker on the right as is the cheek but it isn't noticeable by anyone but me.

Wish I was still off work

After a nice weekend rest I'm back to work. Great eh? When I was off work I was wishing I wasn't. What an idiot. Hehehehe.
