Surreal supermarkets

My mum and sister came over to see me again today so my spirits were high. We all went to the supermarket first and then out for a tapas meal. I can't begin to explain how strange it was walking around the supermarket... imagine a distorted dream and you would be getting close! It just felt kinda surreal.

A strange phenomena is vertigo.

Vertigo slowly decreasing

The end of a hectic first full week back at work and I'm knackered! I don't things would have been as bad if I didn't have an illness to contend with as well as a busy work schedule. The inconvenience of relying on 3rd parties for travel and the constant unsteadiness has made it quite a difficult few days.

To be honest, the vertigo is slowly decreasing in severity so I should be grateful really. Remember, the doctors have told me that it could last for up to 8 months.

No tape and no problems

A few more meetings today means that I'm out of the house once more. Damn!

Being on site is like an army assault course at the moment. Contractors and equipment all over the place is not an easy negotiation when you feel drunk. It's quite embarrassing sometimes when you walk around with my arms out like some kind of tightrope artist but it's necessary and it keeps me upright so I don't care!

The joy of flex

I had a rest from the great outdoors today and managed to get a lot of work done from home. I'm lucky to have that kind of flexibility in my job and it proved to be a godsend when I was completely housebound during the early weeks of the illness.

Don't forget the vertigo

It's been a really busy day today. The project at work is moving into a critical stage right now as our client is preparing to go on holiday for 3 weeks so I need to get some talks going for a smooth handover.

Although I have a heavy workload to concentrate on I can't afford to forget about the vertigo. I've got up from my chair and stumbled about the office a few times today and nearly fallen over in the street because I was distracted by passing traffic. I must admit that it is a bit scary crossing roads at times as sights and sounds become slightly 'warped' when I look left and right.

Earache all the way to the jawline

Besides the balance I have had a little more trouble with the earache and it hurts all the way down to the jawline. I guess this is due to going out a lot more than the past few weeks.

I'm a bit more positive about the progress with my face as it hasn't been mentioned by any of my workmates unless I specifically point it out. There's still a little weakness around the right of my lip and cheek but it's not that noticeable.

First day back at work

Today was the first proper day back at work. Had a meeting with the contractors and then had a meeting with the practice manager. Things seemed to go quite well as far as the actual pen-to-paper was concerned but the vertigo was a problem that I had to mask. I felt quite dizzy down town, on the building site and in the office but I couldn't exactly lie down to gather my senses. Just had to deal with it and carry on. By the end of the day I was happy to get home because the 9am-6pm was a little heavy for a first day back. Good job fella nonetheless.

Just uneventful

An uneventful day with an uneventful beginning, uneventful middle and uneventful end... hmmmmm... lazy Sundays.

Mr Soft

I went to get my hair cut today and decided to walk the short journey home... wow, what a journey it was! I can only describe it as being like 'Mr Soft' from the Softmints advert. All spongy and bouncy and trippy and wobbly and crazy and.... you get the picture. When I finally got home I had to go lie down for a bit because I felt a little 'out-there'.

Checkup at ENT

I went to the hospital today for a check-up at ENT and they seem to be pretty happy with my progress. The doc checked my ears for vesicles (blisters) but everything was OK and then gave me a run down of the results from the hearing test carried out a fortnight ago. The chart showed a significant difference in response from the left and right ears... but it wasn't as I had expected.
