patenik2's blog

My name Nikunj Patel and I live in Chicago, IL. I am happily married with wife Rita and have 1-year-old daughter, Tulsi.

I am a software developer and IT consultant working with one of Chicago's premier consulting company, Technium Inc.

I am fairly healthy person and I don't have any allergies the one I known of. I do have sinus problems since I moved rural area of Chicago western suburbs in July 2000. I get sick much easier in fall and spring in last couple years.

I had chicken pox when I was one year old. I became victim of Bell's palsy in August 2003 and later on diagnosed as victim of RHS and here are my day-by-day experiences with this illness.

Day 42

I am going to stop keeping my diary from now on. I do feel occasional tingling. Since I can blink my eye, I do feel pretty much normal. I am still little sensitive to light and get tired if I stay out door for longer period of time. I will put my most recent picture in a week. I would give special thanks to my wife, daughter, parents, relatives, friends and colleagues for supporting and believing in my recovery. Very special thanks to Rob and his team for maintain this wonderful site.

Day 41

Woke up with little neck pain. Again it lasted until breakfast. Another improvement in my personality is I am not constantly checking my face in mirror when I go to rest room or wash my mouth. I do check once in a while but not constantly like first four weeks.

Day 40

Woke up with feeling much better. I have noticed some improvement in eye blinking. I can blink my eye almost 50%. My affected eye is still bigger compare to other one. Neck pain started again but lasted until I took bath.

I have been staying out either at work or to shop wide screen TV. I usually leave around 7.30-8.00 PM and come back 4.30-5.00 PM. After dinner, I leave again for shopping TV at stores. That might affect my nerves. I had a throbbing pain behind ear in the evening. Its may be because of sinus too. I am having little on and off sinus problem since last couple days.

Day 39

Today is my birthday. I am 31 year old. Woke up and checked my condition as always in mirror. There weren't any sinus problems in morning. Seems like bells palsy recovery has been stopped. Twitches and tingling haven't been stopped so, may be there are recovery but its not fast enough.

Start another week at work. I am pretty much normal at work. Working hard on open issues and able to handle pressure effectively.

After lunch, I was feeling lot of muscle movements on mustache and cheek area. This was again very frequent and last for 5-10 seconds.

Day 38

I have been sleeping well. Again there were no headaches and neck ache when I woke up. I will not mention this again unless I will have headaches and neck pain. I have visited two more friends without any trouble.

I had lots of twitches on lip and facial muscles. There wasn't any visible improvement in bells palsy. It's getting cold in Chicago since we are approaching in fall. There will be lots of allergies in the environment and I will have sinus problems soon. I hope it won't affect any recovery.

Day 37

Again there were no headaches, no neck ache when I woke up. Overall, my body language is getting better and I do feel normal. I can say I am almost 75-80% better. I was feeling lots of twitches and vibration on forehead and lips.

Even I spent most of my day out, I had no headaches or throbbing pain behind ear. This is most welcome change in my body. Once I have my eye blinking back, I will be pretty much normal.

Day 36

There was one huge improvement when I woke up. There were no headaches or throbbing pain behind ear. There are still neck ache but its getting better.

I don't see any improvements in bells palsy. I have visited one of my friends. It's been long time, I haven't visited any of friends and since I am feeling better, I have resumed going to friends place. It wasn't painful or giving me any trouble.

Day 35

Wow! I am sleeping well. I went to bed around 10.00 PM yesterday and woke up at 7.30 this morning without any midnight restroom calls. Once again, woke up bit headachy. I have always headache and neck ache when I wake up in morning and goes away after I take bath or driving to work.

Day 34

Wake up little early. There was throbbing pain when I woke up. I neck pain is very much same. I was feeling much better and I can see my eye is getting better too. I noticed that I could blink little more. I think my next recovery goal is to get eye blinking back as usual.

Another strange thing I found out throughout on my face. There are very small acnes on my face. It's not only on face but all over head too. It's not itchy but very painful. My guess is it might be one more side effect of prednisone.

Day 33

Wake up at regular time. I wasn't feeling headachy or any hang over even I couldn't sleep well last night. I still have neck pain. I have noticed my blinking ability is little bit better. As far as any improvements in bells palsy besides eye blinking ability, I can see more wrinkles on my forehead. It's taking some permanent shape as non-affected side.
