Barbara's Diary - Week 9

Day 57 to 63 - Thursday 15th May - Wednesday 21st May 2003

On Sunday I went early to supervise the mural painting. Some people did well, others made such a mess, Linda and I will have to redo them this week. I kept my eye untaped, to avoid strange stares and questions. That afternoon we went to a wedding reception. Again, because I didn't want stares, I kept the eye untaped. By evening I was tired and my eye felt dry. On Monday I saw Dr Ky (Opthomologist) again. I told him I was driving and leaving the tape off a few hours each day. He still sees those darn dry spots and wants me to keep the tape on. He offered to stitch my eye closed - but I refused. Then he placed a plug into my tear duct, to prevent it from draining the tears. I can hardly feel it, so hope it works. Two days later I noticed a tiny bruise near my nose at the corner of my eye. That must be from the plug in the tear duct. It feels slightly irritated, but I can tolerate it. I will do anything to keep the eye moist. My two and a half year old grandson was my companion for the day and a pure delight. He accepts the tape on my eye with no questions now. "Grandma still has the boo boo." We went to the supermarket and Alex helped me push the plastic soda bottles into the recycling machine. He thought that was great fun. Then he talked to everybody on the checkout line. He is a delight to have around, but after he left I was exhausted!
