Fran's Diary - Week 10

Day 64 - Monday 22nd December 2003

Well, I reached another of those mini-milestones. Today, I went out in the car all by myself and drove myself to do a couple of errands around town. My first driving, and my first getting from the car to the bank/bagel store without hubby's arm to hang on to. (No mega-malls yet!) I did just fine! Praise God, I AM making progress! It may not seem like much to someone who hasn't been through RHS, but this has been a major boost to my confidence and in my hope that my life will one day be my own again! I have always been an independent "Old New England Yankee" type person, and cussedly so! The dependence on others resulting from this problem sometimes has gotten to me more than the actual symptoms... it is so... so... so infantilizing. I don’t know if that is a word, but it does describe how I have been feeling!

My neurologist OKed the TENS unit for the electrical stimulation, but now my insurance company won’t pay for it. I’m not sure I’m eager enough to try it to pay for it out of my own pocket. I’ll have to give this some thought!

Day 67 - Thursday 25th December 2003

Christmas Day! I still didn’t feel as though I could tolerate hours of company, or being company, so the two of us had a lovely, quiet dinner at home. Later in the afternoon, my son & daughter-in-law brought the 4 kids over for a little while. Just long enough for hugs and gift opening. It was great to see them, but boy am I tired! Will I never get any energy, ever again?
