I had yet another mini-milestone today. I had been putting gel in my eye several times a day for over a month, since the artificial tears just didn't seem to moisten my eye enough. Today, I have not had to use the gel at all! I have used the tears several times, but not anywhere near as often as I had had to use them before I tried the gel. It seems that I plateau for a week or two, noticing little or no improvement, then have a sudden jump, improving greatly in one area! This seems really odd to me. |
My PT told me today that the most effective exercise for balance was anything that seriously challenged my balance mechanisms. So she encouraged me to do something I love that would also give me that kind of challenge. Her argument was that if I loved it I would be more likely to keep it up! In my case this is round dancing, a variant of ballroom dancing. The therapist had Hubby and I dancing to tapes in the hall outside the Sports Medicine area, and decided the waltzes with lots of twirling and dipping would do me the most good! Can you picture us: Hubby and I, in our 60s, he built like Jack Sprat, me like his wife, both in jeans and sweatshirts... and me in fancy high-heeled dance shoes... waltzing and dipping, spinning and twirling, while the tape played, the PT took notes, and people passed by constantly, looking at us as though we needed to be in the psych unit in the next building?!! It is helping my balance, though! |
