Fran's Diary - Week 18

Day 123 - Thursday 19th February 2004

I know I am probably the last one to figure this out, but I just learned a hard lesson about eye care! Protect your eye from dust when you do any housework!!! I was feeling pretty good day before yesterday, so I went on a cleaning binge. I didn't give a thought to my eye, or the fact that it doesn’t tear well enough to wash the eyeball clean of dust. I paid for it that night and all day yesterday! I had to keep bathing it thoroughly with artificial tears and adding gel. It finally feels much better today, but I am continuing with the gel. You can bet I won't do housework again without covering my eye!

My cousin from Atlanta is in town this week, so we spent the afternoon together. You could tell she was shocked at the change, not just my face, but my walk and my stamina as well. Telling people by phone and e-mail really hasn’t prepared them for how hard this illness has hit me. I’m not looking forward to the first time my Mom sees me when she gets back from Florida!

Me at Week 18. My face is relaxed; much less droop showing in my mouth and eye.

My 18 week smile. Not much movement there!

No eyebrow movement yet.

My eye is closing better, but still weak.
