Day 624 - Monday 22nd September 2003 |
Woke up feeling more tired than usual. When I looked in the mirror, I noticed my face was droopy on the right side. This is the same side that I have had facial paralysis in the past. My eye is not affected and has never been even on the last two rounds of this. I went on to work, but checked my face in the mirror often. By 10am, I could tell that it was just getting worse. The pain started earlier than this, but reached full pain at around noon that day. I came home that afternoon feeling dizzy, light headed, and with a lot of pain behind my right ear. It seemed to shoot from the front right side of my head to the back of my neck. |
I called my doctor on the way home. I spoke to the nurse, who in turn talked to the doctor, and called me back. She stated that since it seemed to be the same thing again, he wanted to start me on Steroids. He prescribed 70 mgs a day for 10 days and then tapering them down one a day after that. |
The pain continued to grow worse and I was unsteady at times for the rest of the day. |
Day 625 - Tuesday 23rd September 2003 |
Didn’t sleep much at all last night. Even with the sleeping pills (Ambien), I slept maybe 4 hours. This isn’t that unusual for me, since I have insomnia often, but I was really tired. I stayed home from work that day. Called the nurse and she had the doctor call me in some different sleep medication (Temazepam) and pain medication (Butalbital/APAP/CAFF). |
The pain is dulled with the medication, but does not go away. I didn’t sleep at all during the day - hyped up from the Prednisone. |
Day 626 - Wednesday 24th September 2003 |
Hardly any sleep at all last night. Went to sleep even with the sleep medication at around midnight and was up by 3:30am. I will start to go to sleep and then jolt awake. Can’t ever go back to sleep once I wake up. |
Face is better today. Smile is still crooked. Still doesn’t affect my eye. Pain is still there, though. I went in to work for a while and then came home. Went in for an MRI today, as well. |
Day 627 - Thursday 25th September 2003 |
Pain is dull as long as I am on the pain meds. Still dizzy and light-headed at times, though. Went to work, but came home after noon with a lot of pain. |
Pain is dull again after the medication takes over (usually about 20 minutes). |
Day 628 - Friday 26th September 2003 |
About 3 hours of sleep last night. Face is much better. The only thing showing is a slightly crooked smile. The rest looks normal. Pain is still there. MRI results showed nothing. That was a relief, but I am still very puzzled. I have insisted on getting a referral to a Neurologist. That was arranged and I will go on the 9th of this month. Wish it could be sooner. |
Day 629 - Saturday 27th September 2003 |
Pain is much better. Actually did a few things around the house. Still a little unsteady, but doing much better. Some friends came over that evening. Except for a barely crooked smile, you could hardly tell there was anything wrong. |
Day 630 - Sunday 28th September 2003 |
Really tired today. Feel like I am walking in a haze. Pain is back, but not severe. Still a little dizzy. Felt hazy and worn out all day long. |
