June's Diary - Week 3

Day 20 - Sunday 27th June 2004

During the past few days, the Neurontin helped to decrease the pain a bit. Had to increase it to 900mg/day. I was finally able to get about 3 hours of sleep and naps during the day. Still couch and bed ridden, with the pain, and that strange feeling in my head and dizziness. Had frequent facial spasms, but no improvement in the paralysis.

The eye situation was very annoying, but things could be worse. My husband and I got this eye patching routine down pretty good. Switched to the safety glasses. They were more comfortable and still seemed to do the trick. Wore them every waking hour of the day, and sometimes fell asleep with them on during a daytime nap.

Dizziness seemed to be getting worse instead of better. So fatigued I couldn’t think straight. Memory seemed to be shot, too. Ability to concentrate was affected by the pain and fatigue.

And, my family back east got more concerned. My mom felt guilty because she is afraid to fly and afraid of dogs. Two reasons that prevent her from coming out here. And, it was summer…hot and my mom don’t mix well. She’s afraid that I am not being truthful, hiding things from her (like I’ve done with past illnesses), so she always wanted to talk to my husband. He spilled his guts to her when I first got BP when I didn’t want to worry her, so she knew she could get him to continue to talk. At least we could tell my loved ones that I was able to get some rest.

Got lots of “pet therapy” and support from friends. My husband didn’t have to cook much thanks to the neighbors and other friends.
