Liz's Diary - Week 52

Day 360 - Saturday 22nd February 2004

It took a while to get back into the swing of things after the Oct. half term with a lot of extras on at school plus I was starting to put pressure on myself. I was very tired to begin with but the second week back was a big improvement. I was not feeling so desperately tired at the end of the day. No “groggy head” or “jelly legs” for a while now. Great! What I have noticed more towards the end of term and now during the holidays is just how much my muscles ache after a walk. The aching doesn’t just disappear after a rest either.

I am having to really listen to my body again as I’m not coping so well with exercise. I think “little and often” is the moto I need to follow at the moment.

My face is still improving gradually and doesn’t feel as heavy when I get tired. There is still very little movement above the left eye but it really isn’t the end of the world! Especially when I think back to the first 6 weeks of RHS when I had no facial movement. I am really pleased with how much movement there is in my face now. It took a very long time and an awful lot of patience…but you just have to hang in there! “SLOW” has taken on a whole new meaning!

My affected eye waters a lot less except for the odd day when I’m tired. I have noticed that I can almost whistle again (although my eye squints a bit when I do). Plus I can suck through a sports/ water bottle again. Cooool!! These little things surprisingly mean so much.

I am still having acupuncture……when I’m feeling courageous!! (Just kidding - it doesn’t hurt……that much! Hee-hee! No seriously it’s amazing how relaxing it is. My physio is still very supportive and positive.)

I have caught yet another cold from those “little darlings” in my class! When I’m not fighting the “latest bug” I feel so much more like my old self. Any suggestions for helping my immune system??? I am taking vitamins and eating lots of fruit & veg. I might try wearing a paper bag over my head when I’m teaching!

Still can’t handle alcohol very well. So generally drink hardly any at the moment except very occasionally when I have a “Oh what the heck!” night or on special occasions such as 30th birthdays!!! But not much at all.
