Day 36 - Friday 4th April 2003 |
Still sleeping until about 10 and sometimes 11am! I never sleep this much not even at weekends. Sweating seems to be improving just the occasional night. |
What a start to the week! Had a fab day out to Broad Haven on the west coast of Pembrokeshire. What a glorious day too. Enjoyed a lengthy walk across the beach to Little Haven. |

Day 37 - Saturday 5th April 2003 |
Have decided that now is an opportune time to start practising my culinary skills what’s left of them! With a hectic job, homely cooking has definitely been neglected. So now is the time for making scones, flap jacks etc & torture all visitors who turn up expecting a cup of tea!! |

Day 38 - Sunday 6th April 2003 |
Enjoyed my Aunts birthday meal at local pub on Sunday. Decided it would be as good a time as any to face up to walking into a pub with a pirates patch over the eye. Enjoyed the change of company and didn’t get too tired. Coped well with eating and didn’t dribble too much. Jaw did start to ache after chewing lamb though. |

Day 39 - Monday 7th April 2003 |
Managed a bit of "cats lick" cleaning around the house. But 2 rooms was plenty! |

Day 40 - Tuesday 8th April 2003 |

Had an interesting conversation with my physio today. She explained that all the sleep I was having at the moment was my body catching up on months and months of pushing myself. (I think she’s sussed me out!) Asked about returning to work. She pointed out that I must have been very run down for this virus to flare up! MMMmmmm. The last 4 years has been eventful to say the least. The strange thing is I was beginning to feel more like my old self a few months before I got RHS. Mum mentioned that I had had major surgery about 18 months ago. The physio asked how much time I had off work afterwards. 8 weeks! Apparently it takes a year to fully recover from major surgery & she usually advises her patients to have 4-6 wks off after minor surgery! So she bit the bullet & suggested that I had until September to make a full recovery, warning me at the same time that RHS can return! (Oh! I did not realise this.) September?! Yikes! Mum warned the her that I was thinking off returning to work after Easter (that would take me up to 8 wks only). So my physio emphasised the importance of making a full recovery & suggested Sept again saying "Why not Make 2003 the year you really get back on top!" This really hit home. She is so right & deep down I know it (as much as I miss friends & work). |
I know my physiotherapist is right about giving myself long enough to really get back on top (even though I was horrified at having to have 3 wks off to begin with). I just have to face up to the fact that my body is just not keeping up with my mind at the moment. I’ve learned one thing, you have no control over the body when it reaches it’s limit, says "No!" and decides it’s had enough. |
I had a lot to think about this evening. I hate giving in, and asking for more time off work feels as if I am giving in to this virus. |

Day 41 - Wednesday 9th April 2003 |
Mum & I took lunch to Mwnt and sat outside where we could see the fantastic view. Both a bit distracted today. Thought a lot about work & how long I should have off to recover. I really want to be 100% and stay that way. I’m not used to feeling so ill and run down. I’ve always been fit, healthy and very active. I feel so torn and just can’t decide what to do for the best. These are decisions I really can’t cope with at the moment.Tried a herbal drink called Kamboucha this week to see if it would help give me a boost. |

Day 42 - Thursday 10th April 2003 |

A very significant step forward in the movement on my face, which has been nil until today. Used facial toner in the evening for about an hour. When I removed the platelets I washed my face and as I dried it, I noticed my lip curling up. "Oh my god!" I thought I’ve obviously over done it! With a bit of massage and tapping it settled down. Then I noticed that I could voluntarily make my cheek move but only very slightly. The nerves must be regenerating. I was so excited! WOW! I sent a text to mum (who was at work) and then all my friends. It had to be done! Can’t wait to show the physio. I hope it doesn’t stop moving tomorrow. Still dribbling when drinking & can’t manage huge mouthfuls of food! |
