Liz's Diary - Week 83

Day 581 - Thursday 30th September 2004

Well it appears that I am finally returning to the energetic person I was. There are definitely signs of my old self coming back. As the weeks pass, even though it is 18 months since I had RHS I can still see changes & improvements not only in my face but also in my physical ability. I am able to do more exercise but just have to be sensible about it & try listen to my body & ensure I rest afterwards. It is particularly important to rest after a hard day at work.

But life seems to be returning to normal. Yippee! At long last! My body is still definitely in control though as I realised when I picked up a tummy bug during the holidays & I just didn’t bounce back as expected after 2 days in bed. It took a good 2 weeks to feel as active as I did before the bug struck. But at least now I listen to my body.

My face is much better & although I can see some differences, people often say the Bell Palsy is almost unnoticeable now. My eye tends to squint when I pull certain expressions (like a smile or whistling) & when I eat but even that is improving as time passes. My eye waters far less too.

I don’t feel that this illness is running my life anymore. It’s a great feeling! When people ask how I am now it almost seems odd as I no longer consider myself to be ill! I just need to be aware of my bodies needs & listen to it a lot more than I used to. A big lesson has been learned! And no doubt as life moves on, little reminders will pop up along the way just to say “Steady!!”
