We are now in week 9 and things have been quite good of late. Last week brought few surprises and to be honest I think the next few weeks are going to be very similar. |
My only real problems are the irregular bouts of earache and not so irregular vertigo. The facial paralysis is not so visible now although I can tell that there are weaknesses in certain areas. |
The main problem right now is an inability to drive and an increasing dependability on taxis for travel especially with my recent return to work. You won't believe how much it has cost me so far! |
Is this going to be the week that I get back behind the wheel? |

Day 57 - Wednesday 2nd April 2003 |
It's been a really busy day today. The project at work is moving into a critical stage right now as our client is preparing to go on holiday for 3 weeks so I need to get some talks going for a smooth handover. |
Although I have a heavy workload to concentrate on I can't afford to forget about the vertigo. I've got up from my chair and stumbled about the office a few times today and nearly fallen over in the street because I was distracted by passing traffic. I must admit that it is a bit scary crossing roads at times as sights and sounds become slightly 'warped' when I look left and right. |
Day 58 - Thursday 3rd April 2003 |
I had a rest from the great outdoors today and managed to get a lot of work done from home. I'm lucky to have that kind of flexibility in my job and it proved to be a godsend when I was completely housebound during the early weeks of the illness. |
Day 59 - Friday 4th April 2003 |
A few more meetings today means that I'm out of the house once more. Damn! |
Being onsite is like an army assault course at the moment. Contractors and equipment all over the place is not an easy negotiation when you feel drunk. It's quite embarrassing sometimes when I walk around with my arms out like some kind of tightrope artist but it's necessary and it keeps me upright so I don't care! |
One good thing to note... I went to sleep without the micropore tape over my eye (yes I have still been using it) last night and when I woke up I had no ill effects at all. No tiredness, no aching, no stinging and no dryness at all in the right eye. It's taken 2 months to reach this stage but that's another milestone. Good job! |
Day 60 - Saturday 5th April 2003 |
The end of a hectic first full week back at work and I'm knackered! I don't things would have been as bad if I didn't have an illness to contend with as well as a busy work schedule. The inconvenience of relying on 3rd parties for travel and the constant unsteadiness has made it quite a difficult few days. |
To be honest, the vertigo is slowly decreasing in severity so I should be greatful really. Remember, the doctors have told me that it could last for up to 8 months. |
Day 61 - Sunday 6th April 2003 |
My mum and sister came over to see me again today so my spirits were high. We all went to the supermarket first and then out for a tapas meal. I can't begin to explain how strange it was walking around the supermarket... imagine a distorted dream and you would be getting close! It just felt kinda surreal. |
A strange phenomena is vertigo. |
Day 62 - Monday 7th April 2003 |
After a nice weekend rest I'm back to work. Great eh? When I was off work I was wishing I wasn't. What an idiot. Hehehehe. |
Day 63 - Tuesday 8th April 2003 |
I'm definitely getting steadier on my feet as the days go by and today I feel reasonably stable. |
My face hasn't really made much progress though. The lip is still very slightly weaker on the right as is the cheek but it isn't noticeable by anyone but me. |
