Tamela's Diary - Week 3

Day 15 - Thursday 6th January 2005

A little unsteady when walking

Feeling somewhat depressed today

Craving milk shakes

No improvement

Ate French fries and drank a milkshake.

Diarrhea

Day 17 - Saturday 8th January 2005

Exhausted. Don’t feel like doing anything.

Nauseated

Day 18 - Sunday 9th January 2005

Still severe nausea. Called ID specialist. Stopped one round of Acyclovir and Prednisone. Trying to find out what is making me so sick. Called in Phenegran. Makes me sleep.

Appetite no good. Ate a frosty and French fries. Diarrhea again.

Day 19 - Monday 10th January 2005

Dawn picked me up to go to the hospital. Noticed immediately that there was improvement with my face! She even had tears. Went in to see ID Specialist. Had PICC line incision cleaned again. OUCH. He did not seem to be as thrilled with my improvement. Apparently there is a good chance for relapse. (?)

Went by What burger and got a chicken strip meal. Diarrhea. (My system is not handling French fries!! Okay, no more fries.)

Still taking Vicodin pretty regular for headache and ear pain. Every six hours or so.

Dropped my dosage of Prednisone to 15mg twice a day.

Day 20 - Tuesday 11th January 2005

Woke up with terrible pain in the back of my tongue/throat, hurts to swallow

Just what I need!!

Noticed when I brushed my teeth, a thick yellow layer over my tongue

Am wearing my contact in my left eye although it is not closing. Just keeping it moist with eye drops. Is helping me focus better to have two eyes! Left eye does not focus completely.

Day 21 - Wednesday 12th January 2005

Still very week and fatigued. Shaky

Went back to the hospital to see the M.D. Diagnosed me with a case of thrush that went all the way down past the back of my throat. Pretty painful stuff.

Doctor was impressed with the improvement in my face.

Asked when I could go back to work. Doctor said to wait another week but then agreed to let me try to go in an hour or so a day to see what I could tolerate.

Gave me a positive prognosis. Says that like a stroke victim, the early progress is promising in that I will hopefully have a complete recovery.

Says not to overdo, to start getting up and walking around the house a little at a time and then rest. Prescribed Nystatin swish and swallow 5mls four times a day for thrush. Really thick gross stuff you swish around in your mouth and then swallow.
